It all started when I was bored and wrote on whatsapp: "I have a craving for Otah, lets go Muar." A casual statement turned into action and the journey begun.
October 30th 2015, together with RuYi, TingKai and and GuangYing, we embarked on a day trip to Malaysia. It was my first time driving to Malaysia and I was a little nervous yet excited at the same time. After an hour of jam at the custom, we finally made it into Malaysia. Immediately, I ran into a hiccup. Out of excitement, we had forgotten to activate Data Roaming and the GPS on my phone lost signal causing me to turn out at the wrong exit out of Customs. Thankfully there was a petrol station and we pulled up for a quick toilet break and reset the GPS system and got back on the road.
Virgin experience driving in the roads of Malaysia, I realised it is not that difficult actually. Though the road signs were not as clear as those in Singapore, but a GPS system would easily overcome this problem. After barely 5 minutes on the road to meet RuYi at her dad's workplace, TingKai and GuangYing fell into a deep sleep I was left alone in the car to enjoy the drive in the city of Johor Bahru. Driving down the road brought back so much memories of how my parents used to bring me here for short weekend getaways and I would constantly stand in the car out of excitement, refusing to sit down(I was literally dwarf size when I was a kid). After 20 mins minutes of the driving, we finally arrived and met up with RuYi. We quickly parked up the car in her father's factory and got onto her car and got on the road again for breakfast. Malaysia food, here we come!

Ruyi drove us to somewhere (erm, I have no idea where actually><) to have fish ball noodles for breakfast. AH... Nothing beats Malaysian food, everything here taste authentic unlike most of the food in Singapore where most of the food feels (and most probably are) commercially prepared. To be honest, noodles aren't really my thing for breakfast, but I still enjoyed the breakfast because the fish balls taste FRESH! Next stop, Muar!

Hop back into the car and off to Muar, once again, Tingkai and Guanging immediately went into a deep sleep, leaving RuYi to suffer alone from me talking nonstop(most nonsense) throughout the journey up north. After forever, we arrived in Muar. To most people, Muar is fishing village, but to me, it is food paradise. Everything in Muar is cheap, yet nice! We went to my favourite Food street and ate wanton noodles, dumplings and satay. Despite having been here not too long ago, I still ate with delight, as if it was first time eating them. There were still many other great food like oyster omelette and fried carrot cake, etc, unfortunately, most of us are too full to try all the food. We did brought some snacks and finger food to eat on journey back to JB though. After lunch, we went on food to explore the streets of Muar. Despite being a Saturday, most of the shops look empty, everyone seems to crowd in the food street area only. After half an hour of exploring, we realise that there was nothing much that excite us and we decided to head to the super famous Muar Otah shop to eat Otah! I really regret not buying more Otah as I immediately miss the Otah once we got on the car and head back to JB. Thankfully, I have bought enough Frozen packed Otah to bring back to Singapore to slowly savour them when I book out over the weekends.

On the way back to JB, it started raining super heavily, on the road, visibility was down to less than 50m. Precariously, RuYi drove us back slowly, giving me enough time to slowly enjoy all the snacks we bought earlier. TingKai and GuangYing were as usual, sleeping in the car, unaware of the thunderstorm outside the car and unaware that I had accidentally eaten their share of the snacks :P .

Arriving in JB, we went to change into my car and we went back north to Kulai, RuYi's hometown, there, we watched 我的少女时代 at Aeon mall. Many People shared before that the movie was really touching and it brought them to tears. Being an emotionally driven person, I was expecting myself to cry. Somehow, after the whole movie, I still did not cry. Maybe because I have heard of more touching stories? Or simply because Ruyi was there and I did not want to embarrass myself? I am not so sure, but one thing for sure was that the movie was very good none the less. After the movie, We met up with QingYi and her friend, JingJing, who were watching another movie and we had dinner/ supper together to conclude the day at a local eatery beside the mall. Finally, we bid QingYi, JingJing and Ruyi goodbye and headed back to Singapore.

At the Custom, my bladder was put to the test and I had to hold my pee. We only managed to get into Singapore at 12AM and as a result, GuangYing and TingKai had missed the last train.
Overall, though the trip was a short one, it was an extremely fulfilling Saturday. It was a breakthrough for my mundane life. I was actually quite sad on the way back to Singapore. Not that I dislike Singapore or Army, but just that the trip had allow me to not think about anything.I do not have to worry about anything, just leave everything behind and live the moment with great people , complimented by great food,in a great place.
